Lost keys · Mobile auto locksmith
Lost your only car key? Immediate Access provides mobile lost-key replacement for many cars and vans across Southampton and surrounding Hampshire areas. Depending on the vehicle, a new key can be cut and programmed at your vehicle.
Before anything else, check the obvious places — coat pockets, bags, the house, your workplace — and retrace your steps. If the key may have been stolen, or could be with someone who knows where the car is parked, think about whether the vehicle is secure and consider reporting it.
If the key is genuinely gone, there's usually no need to arrange recovery to a dealership straight away. Leave the vehicle where it is and give us a call. We'll ask a few questions about the car and the key, and tell you honestly whether a mobile replacement is likely to be possible.
Losing every key doesn't always mean you're stuck. Depending on the vehicle and its security system, an auto locksmith may be able to determine the correct key information and then create and program a replacement without an original key being present.
This isn't possible for every vehicle. Some makes, models and model years have systems that restrict what can be done outside a main dealer. That's why we ask for the vehicle details first, so we can tell you what to expect before anyone travels.
Where the key has a metal blade, it needs to be cut to match your vehicle's locks. For suitable jobs we carry out the cutting at the vehicle, so you don't need to get the car anywhere.
Most modern keys also need to be electronically paired with the car before they'll start the engine. Once cut, the new key is programmed to the vehicle where supported. See car key programming for more on how this works.
Most cars from the last couple of decades use a chip in the key that the immobiliser must recognise. A lost transponder key needs a replacement that's both cut and correctly programmed.
Keys with lock and unlock buttons have a remote function as well as the chip. Both usually need setting up on the replacement.
Keyless-entry and push-button-start keys communicate with the car without being inserted. Replacing a lost smart key depends heavily on the vehicle, so please call with the details.
We deal with lost keys for many cars and commercial vans. Van owners can also see our van keys page.
We can't give a single price for lost keys because the job varies so much. The main factors are the vehicle's make, model and year; the type of key (blade, transponder, remote or smart key); whether any working key is available; and the work needed to cut and program the replacement.
Call us with your vehicle details and we'll give you a quote for your situation. If you still have one working key, a spare key is usually a more straightforward job. For general replacement enquiries, see car key replacement.
Before carrying out key or entry work, we may need to see proof of ownership or that you're authorised to access the vehicle. This protects you and your car — please have suitable documents available if you can.
Give us the registration, make, model, year and location, and tell us what's happened.
We'll tell you whether a mobile replacement looks possible for your vehicle and give you a quote.
Where suitable, we come to the car, cut and program the new key, and check it works.
